Food, Culture, Nutrition, and the Mediterranean Diet in Southern Italy

Program Dates for 2027: May 24 until June 7

This two-week, faculty-led study abroad program in southern Italy immerses students in the rich foodways, culture, and health traditions of the Mediterranean, with Ischia as the primary base of study. Through experiential learning, students examine how history, geography, tradition, and contemporary social issues shape Mediterranean diets and lifestyles. The program emphasizes the relationship between food, culture, and well-being, offering a holistic understanding of Mediterranean food systems within their cultural and historical contexts. Students will register for a maymester 3-credit class, NUTR 5710/7710: Study Tour in Nutritional Sciences.
