Carolyn Ainslie
- Worked for many years with local leadership, health departments, medical centers and government agencies to deliver programming for rural families experiencing challenges in Morgan, Greene, Putnam and Jasper counties
- Coordinated all 4-H Programming for 10 years including in-school programming, County, District and State project and leadership activities and events, trained and supervised 4-H program assistants and volunteers
- Conducted fundraising campaign to build new 4-H Center and Extension office building, and later to secure an annex building to provide a fully equipped Nutrition Teaching Lab for the Family Nutrition Program

- Chairperson of the Home Economics Department at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College for 24 years; now an emeritus professor

- Tireless advocate of the Home Economics/FACS field and passionate and caring teacher who strove to help her students develop the maturity necessary for success
- Always looking for new challenges, after retirement she has worked as a Support Coordinator for adults with disabilities and has become a licensed realtor

- Sought out by government agencies at the state and national level to provide guidance regarding food safety regulations and policies that impact consumers by ensuring safe food handling and processing policies
- Director of the National Center for Home Food Preservation which was initiated by Dr. Andress and that she has been responsible for maintaining for 18 years
- International outreach through websites, media, journal publications, books and personal presentations that have made a positive impact on health related and economic costs associated with foodborne illness.
- Has made numerous, significant contributions to FACS as an Extension food safety specialist and classroom instructor
- She is a nationally recognized expert in home food preservation, providing training resources and one on one support to agents, teachers, and citizens across Georgia and the U.S.

- Recipient of Creswell Award from the College of Family and Consumer Sciences and three-time as Teacher of the Year in her department
- Received Award of Merit from American Society of Testing and Materials-International (ASTM) in recognition of leadership in fabric test method development
- Honorary Fellow of ASTM
- Nationally known for her expertise with fabric test methods, Dr. Annis is frequently asked to consult with and perform fabric testing for several textile companies.
- Her most recent research projects are related to the transfer of microorganisms and allergens from carpet to skin and skin like materials.

- Visionary teacher, scholar and mentor whose career spanned industry and academia with over thirty-five years’ experience at Harvard University, The University of Pennsylvania, The University of Georgia, SmithKline Beecham, and Monsanto Company.

- Conducted over 50 educator and student workshops teaching more than 1000 educators and youth leaders how to use national award-winning environmental education program with their youth
- Challenges educators, communities and policy makers to find the best avenues for enhancing the education progress
- Mrs. Barrs serves as the chairman of the Cochran/Bleckley Connection Collaborative. This position has allowed her to develop a strong network with public and private agencies to ensure services and programming for the success of families and children.
- Her philanthropy to FACS helps foster student success and the college’s mission by supporting a student intern at the Student Success and Advising Center.

- Department Head, Professor, and Professor Emerita, Department of Foods and Nutrition
- Achieved international recognition for her discovery of one of the genes linked to the development of noninsulin dependent diabetes mellitus; internationally known lecturer, honored for her pioneering leadership in diabetes research
- As a prolific researcher investigating nutrient-gene interactions, has published over 200 research articles, reviews and book chapters, as well as 15 sole-authored books, several of which are standards in the field
- Endowed the Berdanier Nutrition Science Support Fund in FACS to assist undergraduates beginning their scientific careers
- Has remained involved with FACS, mentoring students, giving guest lectures, and providing financial support

- Double Dawg from the College of Family and Consumer Sciences with a BSHE and a MEd In Home Economics
- Honored as 2017 Decatur High School Teacher of the Year and the City Schools of Decatur Teacher of the Year
- Georgia Teacher of the Year for GAFCS in 1993 and a National Merit finalist for AAFCS
- In 1991 Jenna founded the James H Frasier Child Development Center at Decatur High School to serve pregnant and parenting teens along with faculty and staff children. At the height of the program 46 teen parents were helped.
- The Frasier Center in recent years has been used to mentor young teachers in both education and parenting. The center currently serves 85 children 6 weeks to 3 years old.

- Created 2 programs in FACS, TMI, that have sustained 3 years after her departure (Couture a la cart as push cart full of merchandise designed and developed by UGA students)
- Revised the course offering for TMI’s involvement in the Interdisciplinary Ghana Study Abroad program in Social Work
- Saw and developed a product design project between the FACS students participating in the program, boutique owners with entrepreneurs in Ghana
- Emily Blalock’s initiative, creativity and dedication to students have produced many exciting and learning opportunities for FACS students and the Athens community businesses. These programs continue to go strong.

- General Editor and Volume Editor of award-winning four-volume work Clothing and Fashion: American Fashion Head to Toe
- A nationally-recognized scholar of fashion and popular culture, Jose Blanco was an inspiring and passionate teacher during his nine years at FACS.
- His extensive knowledge of the fashion industry enable him to prepare his students well to compete in that competitive industry, and he elevated the profile of the Historic Costume Collection.

- Received the 2008 College of FACS Distinguished Alumni Award, the 2001 Walter B. Hill Award for Distinguished Service in Public Service and Outreach and the 1995 D. W. Brooks Award of Excellence from UGA
- FACS/4-H County Extension Agent in Brooks County for 17 years, followed by 17 years as County Extension Agent in Tift County
- Instrumental in developing teamwork among all of the Southwest District County Extension Agents, especially in mentoring young county agents.
- Judy worked tirelessly to develop programs addressing community problems and to develop UGA state extension educational programming for citizens of Tift and Brooks counties who required training for professions
- Known for her genuine passion for helping others, Judy collaborated with the community on initiatives that benefitted children.She and her extension team developed a county 4-H program that resulted in individual and team awards.

- Instrumental in securing support and funding for the Textiles, Merchandising and Interiors program from GSGEF and in placing TMI graduates in the fashion industry
Wayne Brantley was instrumental in securing support and funding for UGA through the Georgia Soft Goods Education Foundation for many years and has been both directly and indirectly responsible for the placement of many UGA graduates in the Fashion Industry.

- Former director of the McPhaul Child and Family Development Center at UGA (now the Child Development Lab at the McPhaul Center) from 1963 until her retirement in 1984
- Led the formation of the Georgia Association on Young Children in 1966 to advocate on behalf of young children and their families and provide training for educators
- Continuously supported the Child Development Lab (CDL) at the McPhaul Center through her regular contributions and the creation of the Fan Brooke Academic Support Fund which continues to benefit the professional development of CDL teachers today.
- Through her work on the Georgia Association on Young Children, the CDL and her philanthropy, she has had an enduring and significant effect on the training of teachers and advocacy on behalf of policies benefitting children and families

- Native of Athens who served the University of Georgia for 37 years
- A recipient of the prestigious college staff award, The Nettie Marie Nickols Award, two times for her outstanding and consistent service
- One of the original FACS 100 Legacies
- Beloved for her charm, warmth, and support, Susan Brooks served as Office Manager of the Department of Housing and Consumer Economics for 28 years. She served six department heads and mentored countless new staff members.

- Blazed a trail for women at the Atlanta Gas Light Company during her 30 years as a home economist, creating and leading the department of Consumer Information and Education
- Created two UGA FACS endowments supporting international study opportunities and scholarship

- Born in Athens, GA, Mrs. Brown graduated from UGA with a degree in Home Economics. Her passion for education and her determination made her a role model for young women at FACS and the AGL

- Her demonstrated excellence in creating Extension and Outreach programs related to health promotion and disease prevention has made a major impact on health-related behaviors both in the state of Georgia and nationally
- Created and implemented "Cooking for a Life Time Cancer Prevention Cooking Schools", state-wide program which positively impacted 2000+ participants with better diet and health; received a Certificate of Recognition in 2012 from the CDC
- Designed and implemented the Walk Georgia program, a tremendously successful program that ultimately led to a million-dollar grant to UGA to expand the Walk Georgia program
- Has designed influential diabetes training programs for Extension, including “Diabetes Basic Training” and “Right Bite: Extension in the Kitchen Diabetes Cooking School”

- Served in a variety of capacities representing consumers, including Consumer Representative to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, the Federal Advisory Committee on Insurance
- Served as a Public Member of the American National Standards Institute – Conference for Food Protection Accreditation Committee the Board of Directors, Insurance Marketplace Standards Association and the Direct Selling Education Foundation Board
- Accomplished scholar and author of over 200 articles focusing primarily on consumer decision-making, with an emphasis in personal financial literacy

- Winner of the NFL’s 2016 Bart Starr Award, given annually to a player who exemplifies character and leadership on and off the field
- Founded and is personally involved with the Thomas Davis Defending Dreams Foundation (TDDDF) and the Youth Leadership Academy which helps students develop life and social skills to thrive
- In addition to life skills coaching and mentoring, among the programs TDDDF runs are an annual youth football camp for boys and girls, a school supply and backpack giveaway, a Christmas gift giveaway and a Thanksgiving dinner giveaway
- Determined to use his platform as an NFL player to serve as a role model for children in difficult circumstances

- A 40 year career in banking has led to retirement ventures in real estate and the solar industry, resulting in a solar bench outside Dawson Hall for students to rest and charge their devices at the same time
- Bill is now married to Phillipa Shoffner Elliott, and they continue to enjoy being involved with UGA football and other campus activities. Go Dawgs!

- During his time at UGA in 1966, Dick was one of a small number of men with a chosen career in early child development; he focused on two primary topics of research: quality day care and fostering children’s early intellectual development
- Selected to advance to Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Research in 1991, he enabled the college through a period of growth in student enrollment to continue strong academic programs and meet accreditation criteria and expanding research
- Close friend with FACS FDN faculty James J. Peifer, the Endsley-Peifer Research Award supports graduate student published research in both social and biological science; representing their commitment to the college and across disciplines

- Coming to the college in 1987 from industry, she was the one constant that students experienced in the fashion merchandising major for many years
- Respected and loved by her students, Betty was always ready and willing to help her students and provide one on one assistance when needed
- Led the Fashion Merchandising Internship Program for many years
- The Etters, Betty and Nolan, both came to FACS and provided a much needed depth in textiles and the business side of textiles and merchandising

- Entering academia in the late 1980s, Dr. Etters spent 20 years as a research chemist in the textile industry, concentrating on indigo dyeing research
- Served as Interim Department Head for the TMI department for 2 years
- Honored by his peers with first place awards from the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists and recipient of the Olney Medal, the highest award for national and international achievement in textile chemistry
- Serious and lighthearted, he is remembered fondly by many students for imparting to them the belief that "textiles are ubiquitous"

- Served as the Director of the undergraduate dietetics program for many years, shepherding students through rigorous curriculum and into dietetic internships or other post-bac endeavors
- Recognized by peers, she was selected for the American Dietetics Association expert workgroups and chaired the research practice group of 600 members
- Throughout her career at UGA, she exceled in research, teaching and public service with integrity and innovation, influencing future nutritionists and dietitians

- Her seven years as the first Coordinator of the ASPIRE Clinic have positioned the college in the minds of the university and the community as a caring and high quality public service and outreach clinic
- Works to assure staff, students and faculty succeed in their research; delivering academically sound and customer-friendly therapy, financial planning and nutrition counseling to the public while providing experiential learning for our students
- An intentional and caring supervisor and mentor to the undergraduate interns at the clinic, she has been instrumental in their professional development and ability to successfully enter the professional world after graduation

- Seventh and current FACS Dean - her vision is to build a college of cohesive faculty and staff with distinctive and well-funded FACS programs representing a comprehensive land-grant research university mentoring diverse learners
- Prior to coming to UGA in July 2011, Dean Fox served as Dean and Director for Washington State University Extension for 9 years and was the Director of the Margaret Ritchie School of Family and Consumer Sciences at the University of Idaho from 1996-2002
- Served on the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) Board on Human Sciences for six years - representing both UGA and serving as the liaison to Extension Directors and Administrators
- An innovator for applied research, she helped author the Framework for Health for Cooperative Extension that led to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation funded Building a Culture of Health CES initiative
- Named a USDA “Hero” for her national leadership of the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program

- A long-standing professor of marriage and family therapy who has spent over 25 years empowering graduate and undergraduate students, mentoring peers, and challenging all towards greater insight into social justice in their work
- He has championed collaboration, experiential learning, multi-disciplinary effective means to create access to mental health services for the vulnerable and underserved in our community
- Innovated methods of conducting qualitative research and the development of a new field, financial therapy

- First Distinguished Professor of Soft Goods Merchandising and Manufacturing, he expanded the students’ experiences in product development, supply chains, global supply and much more, making them highly marketable graduates
- Developed the China Study Aboard program
- Led the accreditation process for the TMI department to meet the membership requirements with the American Apparel Footwear Association which allowed students to apply for scholarships and experiences in New York City
- Led students in the development of the Scottish Tartan products - sales from which benefit the TMI department

- A 23 year career at UGA spanning jobs in Alumni Relations and Development for the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and Annual Giving, Director of Constituent Programs, and Chief of Staff for UGA Central Development
- She created the University of Georgia Parents and Families Association and the Board of Visitors
- Her service as a volunteer eventually led her to be named the Vice President of the Piedmont Athens Regional Foundation
- Recognized by her alma mater, she has received both the Outstanding Service Award and the Pace Setter Award from the FACS Alumni Association

- Recognized by the preceptors who oversee the students interns as someone who prepares the UGA dietetics interns to be prepared with knowledge, professionalism, and willingness to jump in and learn all they can

- Anne served as an instructor in Child and Family Development for the college when she worked as a laboratory school teacher at the Athens Unit of the Georgia Mental Retardation Center for seven years
- Earl received his M.D. in 1951 from Duke University and remained there for post graduate training to become a urologist
- Upon his retirement, in 1986, from Emory University School of Medicine he held the position of Emeritus Professor of Surgery
- Strong advocates for FACS, Anne and Earl established two endowed funds housed in the college - an international study abroad award as well as a professorship

- Joining the college as a member of the Department of Child and Family Development in 1966 he was the “intellectual rock” which helped many graduates build their careers
- Over 30 years in the college, his contributions to the field and his mentoring of future scholars prepared them to critically evaluate ideas and develop uncommon insights and the drive to seek knowledge and scientific rigor
- Many consider him a legendary member of the faculty because of his absolute command of the subject of child development and because of his enthusiasm for his material and for the students’ learning experience

- Dean Pou and the Director of UGA Alumni Relations were able to establish the Home Economics Alumni Association when on March 5, 1977 Doe Harrington Harden was elected Chair for a two-year term and the organization was launched
- Following this formation, 4,600 alumni were able to join in the first annual meeting, bylaws were adopted and the annual banquet, Student Loan Fund, and the first Alumni Awards were established
- The Highlights newsletter was soon distributed to the entire alumni association membership, edited by Wanda Grogan

- 1971 graduate who served as Home Economics Agent and 4-H Agent in Putnam and Clayton Counties, becoming Clayton's County Extension Director
- Lifelong advocate for families and children, chaired committee that built Rainbow House Shelter for Abused Children, helped start Clayton Youth Leadership Program and Parent Education program with Clayton DFCS and Juvenile Court
- Received FACS Distinguished Alumni Award; served as FACS Alumni Association President
- Named the Walter Bernard Hill Fellow, and served as adjunct faculty member of the Fanning Leadership Insitute
- Served in county leadership roles at the Chamber of Commerce, American Cancer Society, Partners in Education, Leadership Clayton, and the Clayton Community Foundation Board

- Administered the McPhaul Head Start Program, bringing greater diversity to the demographics of the McPhaul Center
- Developed and administered the interdisciplinary (HDFS/EDEC) undergraduate and graduate PreK - Grade Five Teacher Training Programs
- Solely responsible for initiating and administering the undergraduate and graduate HDFS Child Life Programs
- Dr. Wallinga was an engaged and visionary administrator and teacher who saw and encouraged each student’s full potential. She has a profound effect on FACS and in the lives and careers of her students

- Served several roles in the college beginning in 1980, including Professor and Associate Dean for Research and Instruction
- Served as president of the National Council on Family Relations

- Recipient of the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of the Year Award which recognizes excellence on and off the field
- Founded the Helping Hands Foundation to improve the lives of inner city and underprivileged youth in Pittsburgh and Atlanta
